Brett,
Have you ever considered that you should "Jine the Cavalry"? We don't get blisters on our feet, but other areas become sore, especially if we try to cover the distance you are. I will be traveling south to join the 1st Virginia Cavalry in Strasburg, VA and will return north after we have assisted Col. Jackson's men in relocating a few locomotives in the "Great Train Raid of 1861". Can I bring you anything? Some good Tennessee whiskey? Some nicely aged beef for on your campfire spit? I'll be in the neighborhood, it's the least a Confederate cavalryman can do for an old "ground-pounder".

From Diary of a Confederate Soldier John S. Jackman of the Orphan Brigade...stated numerous times that his feet were so sore that he could barely walk...he even had to "cut my shoes so they did not hurt my feet quite so bad, and marched with greater ease"

Feet that were frost bitten...feet that were cut by shells...feet that were blistered...all seemed to be common themes mentioned over and over again in diaries of soldiers...

Must have been constantly on their mind as I am sure it is now constantly on your mind...

Now you need to start to feel the hunger they felt on a constant basis and you will be just about there...

What fun...

Lion Brett,
I understand what you are going through. A couple of years ago I took my Boy Scout troop to Gettysburg. We hiked the Johnny Reb trail. Until you do soimething like that you don't have a true appreciation of the miles Lee's troops had to march just to get into the battle lines. A car trip just doesn't convey the distances and hardships.

This is such a great thing you are doing...Makes me think of my ancestors who were willing to go without food for days...Go into battle with faulty weapons...Who complained little and went years without seeing their loved ones...I am sure the kids will be so very excited to learn about how the great ones did it...I will be checking on you site each and every day.
